Giulio and I are now into countdown mode for our trip to Spain departing Adelaide on May 2, 2015.
We will be away for four and a half weeks with the main highlight being a walk of about three weeks along half of the Via de la Plata ( a 1,000 kilometre trek beginning in Seville) We plan to start in Salamanca and finish in Santiago de Compostela. That’s a 500 kilometre walk and my research tells me that we should take about twenty one days.
We also plan some more relaxing and indulgent times in Spain both before and after our Camino. After picking up a hire car in Madrid we will head to Toledo for 2 nights where I have booked accommodation in a Parador which boasts one of the most stunning views in Spain. We will then spend 3 nights based in a small hotel near Segovia and explore the surrounding towns and countryside at leisure before we drop off our car in Salamanca which will be the start of our walk.
Once we finish the Camino we plan to spend a few days staying with friends near Santiago.
On long distance walks Giulio and I “enjoy”the Spartan challenge of walking with no frills. This seems to make no sense to most people that we know. For this Camino it means that we will carry our entire luggage for the trip in our backpacks. Sleeping bags in case we need them in some pilgrim hostels but no tent or cooking equipment for this trip. No pre booked accommodation but we will be guided by books and internet sites about preferred places to stay and eat.
No doubt we will be in for some surprises and challenges. Now it’s time to select a very small number of lightweight but warm clothing items to take, pack our toiletries into easy to carry small containers and place every piece of information we will need into my phone.
Our journey will soon begin

Hi Anne-Marie & Giulio, We are so excited about your trip. Just remember not to let Giulio out of your sight. We don’t want to lose him off some Spanish hill or cliff! Adios amigos, Carol & Carol
Hello Anne-Marie & Giulio, Geoff and I hope you have a fantastic adventure and we look forward to following your trip on line. I think you are both very brave. It’s certainly NOT something on my “bucket list” so through your eyes and your posts, I will learn something of what you are both undertaking. Have fun and stay safe. Love Robyn & Geoff
